Gördes Nickel Mine Site
Project area is located in Western Turkey, within the boundaries of Manisa Province, between Akhisar and Gördes Towns and around the Fundacık - Çiçekli – Kabakoz and Kalemoğlu Villages. Mine site is 20 km away from Gördes Town by an asphalt road and it is nearly 45 km from Akhisar Town, 115 km from Manisa and 160 km from İzmir. The nearest state railway is about 40 km away.
A total of 230,000 tons of nickel ore was produced from two open pits and 150,000 tons of ore was exported to Greece, Macedonia and China, since 2003. Approximately 80,000 tons of the remained nickel ore was stocked at the mine site, to be used during trial production of the process plant, which is under construction.
A world class laboratory was set up on mine site in 2007, to conduct chemical analyses on the samples obtained from exploration and drilling program.
Ore exportation was put on hold in 2008, due to
Board’s decision of building a process plant for Gördes Deposit.
In 2009, technological tests together with the feasibility study were completed and EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) Report for Gordes Project was approved by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Currently, a total of 32 technical and administrative personnel are being employed at the mine site.
Within the Gördes Project,
has a total of 15 mining licenses; 7 operational and 8 exploration licenses.
Total of a 1,200 thousand square meters land was bought for process plant.
Currently, a machine park of 500,000 m3/year stripping and 500,000 ton/year ore production capacity is available at the mine site. There is also a screening plant with a capacity of 500,000 ton/year.
In addition, there are two administrative buildings, a cafeteria, a laboratory building and a core shed in the mine site.
