Sustainability

As Meta Nickel Cobalt, we never forget our responsibility to future generations. We understand that the continuity of our business and life depends on the sustainability of the resources provided by the world. Therefore, in line with our corporate sustainability vision, we have integrated our principle of producing with respect for people and the environment, adding value to society in all our activities, into an integral part of our working approach.

While building our fundamental approach on the principle of being creative, productive, and innovative, we work with a strategy to make this business model part of our corporate culture. In this regard, we evaluate our infrastructure, investments, and working principles as a whole, considering our social development and environmental responsibility understanding.

As we contribute to the development of the region by creating added value with our production, and simultaneously take responsibility for future generations, we develop innovative solutions to continuously improve our environmental performance. While increasing our efficiency, we focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, natural resource utilization, energy consumption, and waste generation. When assessing our environmental impact, we not only limit it to our own facilities but also move forward with the idea of creating an ecosystem that includes all our stakeholders. From R&D studies to production, and from production to logistics, we prioritize environmental responsibility in all stages of the value chain.

Environmentally Friendly Closed-System Production

At Meta Nickel Cobalt, we conduct all our activities in alignment with Zorlu Group's Smart Life 2030 strategy, emphasizing environmental, social, and governance principles, with a focus on sustainability.
Within the framework of our environmental sustainability approach, we utilize one of the world's 25 autoclave boilers at our facility in Manisa-Gördes to be the heart of a new mining concept. This boiler operates with high efficiency, using a closed system and the pressure leaching method with high-pressure acid, causing minimal environmental impact.
Our facility in Gördes, equipped with a secure waste disposal facility for entirely harmless waste, boasts the largest Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permission in its field, covering 3,834 hectares.
In line with our environmental sustainability goals, we have planted 250,000 saplings in a 90-acre afforestation area in Gördes. As part of a project conducted in collaboration with the State Hydraulic Works (DSI) to ensure the continuity of natural life, we source water for our facility from the Çiçekli Pond constructed within the scope of the project.
Through the water recycling and waste reduction project, we feed the wastewater directed to the waste storage dam back into the production, ensuring at least 40% less water consumption from nature.
With this project, we aim to recover the entire water used by 2050 through our regenerative business model approach.

Balıkesir Province National Afforestation Campaign

Within the scope of our environmentally sustainable initiatives, we continue to implement numerous afforestation projects. In this context, we have contributed to the Balıkesir Province National Afforestation Campaign led by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. As a result of the campaign, a 52-hectare area within the boundaries of the villages of Akçal and Soğanbükü, under the management of the Balıkesir Forest Regional Directorate, has been transformed into the "1923 Republic Forest

Tree Planting in Tavşanalanı

Another afforestation project was realized in collaboration with the Gördes Forest Management Directorate, affiliated with the İzmir Forest Regional Directorate, in the northern part of Tavşanalanı location in Gördes District, covering an area of 90 hectares.

Fully financed by our company, the afforestation project involved the planting of 230,000 pine saplings and was completed within a period of 1.5 months, providing employment for approximately 180 local residents.

Other Reforestation Activities

As Meta Nikel Kobalt, we aim to contribute to tomorrow by participating in annual reforestation activities.
